Bravo Radio Theatre

This telling of C.S. Lewis' beloved TLTWTW is very well done. The ultimate is to get your hands on the full set. It offers a great way to further enjoy this well crafted story for young and seasoned. Other works of Focus on the Family's Radio Theatre are also highly recommended. Happy listening.

An enjoyable adaptation

I love this BBC version of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe." The story is a classic, and this script is very true to the book.
The production is very well done, like most of the BBC's audio theatre. The voice actors do a great job, and actual children play the four kids. The various accents of the British Isles are on display, which adds a realistic touch. Music and sound effects are well used to evoke mood and excitement. Imagination is one of the main benefits of radio theater, and the BBC knows how to do it right. The White Witch is terrible. Aslan is good, but not safe.
I think that they have produced, or are currently producing, the entire series as audio dramas. I will definitely be looking into the others.

This was an awesome audio production of the second book in the

C.S. Lewis "The Chronicles of Narnia" series. I was drawn spell bound into the story and was deeply impacted emotionally everytime Aslan, being a type of Christ, appeared in the story. It was powerful and I immediatley ordered the entire audio series to enjoy and share with others.

A great little scale reference and cheap too!

This is a great scale book for guitarist and one that I refer to often. I still haven't found the ONE perfect scale book (hence only four stars), but this one comes close. It is one of three scale books that I use, and because of its compact size, it is usually the one that I have handy when I need it. Troy does a great job of explaining the scales and giving some exercises for practice. What I like best about this book is that it shows the scales in all positions across 22 frets with the root notes highlighted. Also, many scale books only show fretboard diagrams of the scales in one key, usually C or E and then explain how to move them around. This book includes diagrams of several keys (including G and A, which are favorites of mine). The only other thing I wish about this book is that it was spiral bound so it would lay flat when open, but I would rather have this book than any of the other gig bag sized ones that are spiral bound. All in all a great little scale reference and cheap too!

Small Cheap and full of information

By far it contains a wide diverse set of scales, fingerings, and even a few exotic scales at the end. It is small enough to fit in any gig bag or guitar case, making it very conveninet. Unlike other scale/method books that present one scale and make a few variaitions on it, this one uses entirely different scales in different keys.....another great book by Troy Stetina

definitely not for beginners!

This may well be the most lucid and interesting treatment of guitar scales every written, but since I can't make sense of half of what he says, it does me little good. It suffers from a very common problem with instructional material on music. It throws out terms without explanation, uses a variety of interchangeable terms without discrimination, and doesn't define the terminology except occasionally in the middle of an explanation where it does not belong. In short, If you don't already know about music and theory, you'll likely be lost in pretty short order.

For Example: "Tonality refers to the pitch of the starting note, or "root" note. For example, A major and G major demonstrate two different tonalities. Different tonalities may also be called simply "different keys." " So a "key" is a "tonalitiy?"...then, "Modalities may be referred to to as being different "types of keys." " ...so then "modalities" must also mean different "types of tonalities" since tonalities equal keys? ....then "So any scale or key requires two things to be specified - a starting pitch (tonality).....BUT WHOA.. didn't we just learn that a tonality is also a key? So then a key, and a tonality, and a pitch are all the same thing...heck, if they all mean the same thing why are we referring to them by 3 diferent names? WEll, me thinks you get the idea. By the time I got done with the first few paragraphs, it had become so convoluted that I simply moved on to other things.

Might be great for music majors, which is the same things as music students (persons who study music), but for the uninitiated its a wipeout.

Even when the inaccuracy of a 360-day year became apparent, they preferred to retain it and add five intercalary days. The number 360 retains its psychological appeal today because it is divisible by many small integers. The technical term for such a number reflects this appeal. It is called a "smooth" number. At the other extreme are those integers with no smaller divisors other than 1, integers which might be called the indivisibles. The mystic qualities of numbers such as 7 and 13 derive in no small part from the fact that they are indivisibles. The ancient Greeks realized that every integer could be written uniquely as a product of indivisibles larger than 1, what we appropriately call prime numbers. To know the decomposition of an integer into a product of primes is to have a complete description of all of its divisors.

Excellent Text on Factorization

This is one of the most compact and best organization of material on the subject of factorization and primality.
Written by a promising author, this book explores factorization from the beginning to end, starting with the sieve of Eratosthenes and proceeding to much more complicated material. The book focuses on algorithms, and contains many useful ones, such as how to raise a number a to a power b, mod m. However, the primary focus of the book is factorization, so it contains algorithms for factorizations. They begin with trial division, then progress into Fermat's Algorithm and Pollard Rho. They eventually evolve into one of the strongest methods to date, Quadratic Sieve, and its child, Multiple Polynomial Quadratic Sieve.
This book is certainly a must for amateurs who are exploring the subject.

Old, but pertinent.

As far as I can tell this is the first edition of a book written in 1989, almost 20 years ago. Fortunately, the material is still relevant. The author does a good job of presenting the information in a precise manner that is understandable to the reader. Still you will see that the largest Mersenne prime listed in the book is hopelessly out-of-date, and you will find some errors which were never corrected. May I request a second edition for this book as to make it up-to-date?

This book gives you the juicy bits you want for factoring and primality testing. It skips all the theory and presents the algorithims before you to observe and play with. For the amateur, this is an excellent first book.

Amazingly Gripping Urban Drama

Growing up in the Bronx, I've encountered so many experienced and this book manages to conjure up all those images and many more. This book is a true joy to read. It's vivid details allows you to follow Jessie as she stuggles to survive in the gritty streets of NYC. One of the better urban dramas I've read in some time. I strongly recommend everyone spend some time on this heart pounding story that will leave you wanting more from the author.

Black Jessie

This story starts out in late 1979 when a young Jessie and her older sister Ashley, are abruptly taken from their grandmother's house in Bayside Queens to the Bronx by their mother Sandra.
This new location namely The Patterson Housing Projects was to be the new home for this single mother and her two daughters.
Of course Sandra had to go out and work leaving the girls to go to school and Ashley to prepare dinner once they got home.
This was a big change for Ashley and Jessie and they soon learned that they would have to toughen up if they were going to survive in this dangerous neighborhood.

But things start to change when Ashley disappoints her mother and is separated from Jessie. Jessie is attacked almost everyday on her way home from school by some tough black girls who thought they could intimidate the Puerto Rican Jessie; but Jessie fought back earning respect in the neighborhood and friendship from two black sisters Shaqwana and Kim who stood up for Jessie and lived in the same building. As Jessie mother frequently worked long hours Jessie found herself spending a lot of time with Shaqwana's family which she didn't mind as she loved their mother's soul food; that earned her the name "Black Jessie"

Jessie becomes familiar with the hood where she meets Rosa and Elaine and the three make a pack to be "Friends "Till the End".
As the story heats up these three friends are each put through trials and tribulations which expose them to money, sex, drugs and death. But will they be able to stay friends once their loyalty is tested?

An excellent debut novel!!! I recently met author Julie Ojeda Nin and what I liked about her was she was very passionate about her work and was able to tell me about her book without giving away the story. Kudos to Julie for this powerful read and I wish her a bright future in the literary world!

Urban Drama Full of Hispanic Flavor

This no holds barred story of a young girl forced to experience more than one should at her age is a compelling page-turner that I found satisfying and enjoyable. Written in a gritty in-your-face manner, the author takes you through the trials and tribulations of Jessie aka "Black" Jessie, a teen living in a Bronx housing project. Though faced with many adversaries, Jessie remains strong and uses past experiences to learn how to deal with the present.

Giving the reader emotional involvement is the key to creating an interesting story. New author Julie Nin has succeeded in doing so through her protagonist, "Black" Jesse. Jesse is a lovable "heroine" that incites compassion and an overall concern for her well being. The story was paced well and very realistic with memorable characters and unsuspecting sub-plots. Friendship, betrayal, murder, and rape are just a few of the dramatic happenings that take place in this urban drama with a Hispanic twist.

At the conclusion I was pleasantly surprised to find that there would be a continuation, because we found out just the right amount of information in this first installment. It was the kind of story that made me want to turn right around and pick up part two. If Julie executes her sophomore work in this same fashion...there's a good chance that we will be - friends til the end!

Consistent with the author's social-science background, he begins with models for dichotomous responses. The logic model is treated as the solution to the problems one would encounter with using linear regression for binary response data. Both PROC LOGISTIC and PROC GENMOD are introduced. PROC REG is cleverly included, though, as a diagnostic for collinearity. The excellent binary data diagnostics in PROC LOGISTIC and PROC GENMOD are covered extensively. Paul D. Allison is a Professor of Sociology and Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania where he teaches graduate courses in survival analysis and categorical data analysis. Every summer he teaches a five-day workshop about logistic regression that is attended by researchers from around the United States and Canada. Besides his numerous statistical papers, he has also published extensively on the subject of scientists' careers.

Incredibly Helpful

I had used this author's SAS book on survival analysis before, so I was expecting another virtuoso performance when this book came out. And I was not disappointed. The book is incredibly useful, provides clear examples, makes you feel like you really understand the statistics, provides voluminous SAS code to illustrate how to implement analyses, and even teaches you a few tricks about how to handle unusual data problems along the way. Highly recommended, even if you don't use SAS!

Must have book for the SAS user

In the first place, I am a pathologist writing a review on a book on statistics. That, by itself, will raise a few eyebrows. Few pathologists, in my opinion, understand statistical jargon. Yet, I would recommend this $40 book to even a novice in pathology who wants to do logistic regression modeling. While this books does explain logistic regression like most other books, what sets this book apart, are the real-world examples and the simple SAS code included with each example?
I have specifically been able understand GEE modeling only in this book, as compared to the numerous other books, where I find the statistical jargon intimidating; so much so that, I have ended up getting confused even after a couple of hours worth of intense reading. If you are devoted SAS user, you have probably read this book already. But if you are a novice pathologist and want to start learning a new program, I would advise Stata rather than SAS. SAS, in my opinion is code heavy. Yet, this book will be very useful to understand the varied uses of logistic regression (from exact to GEE analyses, especially from a pathologist's perspective). All discussions are to the point without too much jargon. For $40 this book is great value. I am just waiting to see if a newer version comes up in the near future.

If you need to understand logistic regression analysis and you must do it in SAS, then you must have this book.
Gives clear, concise explanation of logistic regression, how to accomplish it in SAS, and explains the details of the SAS results.
This book had me up and running in short order.

In "Climate Considerations in Building and Urban Design" based on the natural factors and environmental capacities, there are very useful techniques in terms of thermal comfort achievement and energy saving. Passive solar systems including greenhouse, solar chimney, thermal roofs and wall, with simple and clear explanation are presented in this book. This is recommended basic book and perfect reference for all students that they are studying in thermal comfort and passive solar systems in architecture.

Finally for those that like to know how to use the natural possibilities to achieve thermal comfort in building, Givoni presents a clear reference with good figures and brief explanation.

Review of Starting an Etsy business. A well written instructional guide for anyone who would like to sale handmade goods, supplies, vintage items, jewelry,artists of all description. You get an intro, to an on line business model, from your sign up of an Etsy account , navigate the site, instruction from start to finish.

Rules listed on what you can and can not sell on line.

Leads you step by step on creating an eye catching store front.

Lots of hints on how to photograph items, how to compose titles and descriptions, Instructions on every phase of your sales, how to ship, to purchase, postage and printing a mailing label. Listing an item on line for .20 cents an item.

I have been an Etsy shop owner since 2008, and this book answered a score of questions regarding how a Treasury list works,I believe the best section of this book was learning how to get exposure, how to market my business, build a brand name, create a logo, how to understand all phases of your business.

I have never been interested in Facebook, or Twitter but if you are already on any of these media sights there are sections just for you. How to make the most of your items.

You can actually establish a healthy income, depending on how hard you work. I found myself excited to try marketing ideas.

I recommend this book for artists and entrepreneurs looking to build an online craft business from scratch.

Contains sufficient information for starting an arts or crafts business on Etsy

Most of the "For Dummies" series of books are clearly not written by dummies and Starting an Etsy Business for Dummies is no exception. The authors meticulously go over every aspect of starting a business on Etsy maintaining though out a infectious enthusiasm about the selling process on Etsy that I found encouraging. I have an interest in using Etsy to sell prints I make, so this book was particularly relevant to me, and I came away from it feeling much more confident about doing so. I highly recommend this book to anyone thinking of selling on Etsy, if you are a dummy about Etsy before going into this book, you will be a dummy no more after reading it!

Everything you need to know to get started

I have to confess that I opened my Etsy store a year and a half ago, but really had no clue as to how to make it work as well as it should. "Starting an Etsy Business for Dummies" really did help me to go through, step by step and rethink my business plan, get more familiar with the Etsy site and offer the products that Etsy buyers are most likely to connect with. Selling on Etsy is a different beast from selling on eBay or even on Amazon, Kate Gaski and Kate Shoup go over the differences and explain it very well. I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for good, general advice on how to make the most of Etsy in one convenient place.
