Tim Dressen is producer and cohost (along with his bride, Michele) of Five Hundy by Midnight, the first podcast devoted to Las Vegas news, reviews, and commentary. Debuting on Jan. 9, 2005, the show has attracted thousands of devoted listeners in all 50 states and more than three dozen countries. Five Hundy has also garnered media attention from publications including The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and Las Vegas Review-Journal. The readers of VegasTripping voted Five Hundy by Midnight the Best Las Vegas Podcast eight times—every year it has been eligible—and voted Dressen the Las Vegas Person of the Year in 2015. He is also the editor of FremontStreetBars.com, a guide to the Downtown Las Vegas bar scene. A professional writer and editor by trade, Dressen earned a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. Informative and very entertaining!

As a longtime fan of the Five Hundy by Midnight podcast and a frequent Las Vegas visitor, I have been looking forward to Tim Dressen's book for some time. I was not disappointed. The book is well researched, informative, and very entertaining. The author's sarcastic wit is on full display while he provides a great deal of practical information to help visitors get the most from their Las Vegas trips. Throughout the book, links are provided to help the reader easily access schedules, fees and additional details. All of the major hotels and attractions are covered (one of my favorite lines being a description of the Rio hotel/casino theme as "Carnival of Sadness") and the book includes many useful tips on topics ranging from how far in advance to make reservations to "strategic restroom planning." This is not a book influenced by Las Vegas industry PR touts; the author is not afraid to provide his unvarnished views on what his readers should expect from the full range of casino/hotel, entertainment and drinking/dining options.

The most fun Vegas guide there is.

Author is a friend so I got to read a pre-release copy of this book.

As you'd expect, it contains all of the normal sort of bits and bobs about traveling to Las Vegas. What's different is the unique voice of the author. Tim Dressen's witty prose is just fun to read.

I'd recommend this book to both Vegas newbies and seasoned veterans. There's something in it for everyone.

Unbiased and What You Need

This book is so much better that the standard corporate guide books to Las Vegas or even the sometimes informative Lonely Planet types. Tim Dressen knows a lot about Las Vegas but has the spirit of a typical visitor in town for three or four nights who rarely leaves the tourist areas -- the Strip and Fremont St. The Outsiders' Guide includes all the information relevant to the typical visitor without trying to cover every chain restaurant or third rate off-strip motel. Things are different in Las Vegas and a good guidebook will help a newbie visitor a lot more than most "normal" tourist destinations. Dressen's podcast has caught on because he has resisted spouting the PR'isms that infect virtually everyone who is paid to promote nightclubs, casinos and restaurants. The book is an extension of what Tim and his wife, Michelle have been doing for years over the internet. Unbiased information about Las Vegas can be hard to come by. The Outsiders Guide is not the last word on everything that a Las Vegas lover might want, but it includes everything that most visitors need.

Basic Chiropractic technique made easy...

This book is in use for the Chiropractic course in Odense, Denmark, as a textbook on chiropractic technique in the 5.th and 6.th semester of the 10 semester university programme. Great book with nice illustrations, allthough there are a few mistakes or typing errors. This is a great book for teaching manipulative therapy.

Great text to learn chiropractic technique

I recently graduated chiropractic college and found this book to be one of the main sources to help me learn chiropractic technique. The pictures are great. It shows you how to set up and what the direction of torque is. I used this to study for the National Boards Part 2, 3 and 4. It also has a great section on how show how to translate a PRS-SP Gonstead listing into a National or Medicare listing. This section alone helped me a lot on the boards. I also used the following study guides for the preparing for the Chiropractic National Boards:

They also helped me to know which sections I was weak in before taking the boards. These 5 books helped me greatly in preparation for taking the boards. Buying these books are definitely better than taking over the boards again.

A "Must-Have" for chiro student

I bought this book on the recommendation of a Palmer instructor. One of the biggest problems I've had is finding another student to practice with. Not only that, if you practice adjusting wrong, you learn wrong and waste a lot of time & effort - not to mention your frustration level goes into orbit...

The instructors in the classes almost make it look too easy. But they've had tons of experience. Things get a lot more confusing when there are so many techniques, what not to do, where to put your hands, how to stabilize, etc etc etc. This book, though pricey, is concise and to the point with lots of photos - where to place your hands, patient positions, doctor stance, lines of drive & correction, multiple techniques, extremities adjusting, and so forth. School is so hectic and there is so much to learn, so many exams & practicals, boards, more exams, internal orals, etc. We already spend a large fortune on tuition. If you're going to invest in your future, why skimp on the few things that can make your adjusting life a bit easier?

My only regret is that I wish I'd bought and started reading this book in my first quarter at Palmer.

"Between 1971 and 1973 I audited all the courses medical students take in their first two years at the University of Minnesota. I was amazed at the amount of physics I found in these courses and how little of it is discussed in the general physics course.

I found a great discrepancy between the physics in some papers in the biological research literature and what I knew to be the level of understanding of most biology majors or premed students who have taken a year of physics. It was clear that an intermediate-level physics course would help these students. It would provide the physics they need and would relate it directly to the biological problems where it is useful.

This book is the result of my having taught such a course since 1973. It is intended to serve as a text for an intermediate course taught in a physics department and taken by a variety of majors."

Among the many topics treated are: forces in the skeletal system; fluid flow, with examples from the circulatory system; the logistic equation; scaling; transport of neutral particles by diffusion and by solvent drag; membranes and osmosis; equipartition of energy in statistical mechanics; the chemical potential and free energy; biological magnetic fields; membranes and gated channels in membranes; linear and nonlinear feedback systems; nonlinear phenomena, including biological clocks and chaotic behavior; signal analysis, noise and stochastic resonance detection of weak signals; image formation and description; image reconstruction; hearing and medical ultrasound; atoms and light; near infrared scattering; optical coherence tomography; infrared radiation; ultraviolet light; radiometry and photometry; the interaction of photons and charged particles in tissue; radiological physics and the use of x-rays in diagnosis and therapy; nuclear medicine; and magnetic resonance imaging. A must-read for physicists interested in biology

Intermediate Physics for Medicine and Biology (Biological and Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering) is now in its fourth edition, and gets better every time. This is the ideal starting place for biologists who need to use physics to explain something biological or physiological, or physicists who want to apply quantitative physics theories or techniques to biological phenomena or delve into medical or biological physics. The derivations and illustrations are clear and useful, and the book provides detailed explanations rather than just decreeing the applicable equation for a particular phenomenon. The rich set of problems makes it an ideal textbook for physics or biomedical engineering or quantitative biology; the breadth of the material makes it a wonderful reference book.

A must KEEP for physicists working in biology!

Intermediate Physics for Medicine and Biology, 4th Edition (Biological and Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering) has proven to be a most useful tool in crossing the lines between physics and biology. As a recent graduate of Medical Physics now doing a postdoc with MD's, I find myself reaching for some section of it time and time again; both to help me understand their perspective as well as to better communicate mine. It is not only a must have, it is a MUST KEEP!

A Great Textbook for Medical Physics

This is an ideal textbook for an introductory level medical physics/biomedical engineering course for juniors and seniors. When I used this textbook to teach an introductory level medical physics class, I found it to be rich in biological and medical materials, and hardly referred my students to other textbooks. It includes most of the derivations that students need to know and plenty of problems for them. The authors have done a great service for the students by explaining required physics concepts in the textbook.

Delightful little book by a new author and illustrater...kids will lean much from this one

What a delightful, well written and illustrated little book this one is! The story, told in nicely done verse explores a dilemma we all face from time to time. You have folks with opinions and then you have folks that are driven by pure facts. There is plenty of room in this world for both points of view and Melissa Polyakov gently explores and illustrates how it would be a happier world for us all if each side accepted the other.

I had to smile when I read this tale as it brought memories to a young sergeant that worked for me in the military years ago. This young man's entire life was based on FACTS. If he could absolutely verify something in black and white, he simply could not function. To be truthful, this kid was an absolute pain to work with. I would tell him that from time to time you just had to let our imagination go, express your opinion and not necessarily back that opinion up with volumes of `facts.' Opinions are what add zip to our lives and this point is well made in this well thought-out story. It should also be noted that the author is quite subtle is sneaking in the fact that we need to accept the opinions of others. We may not agree with those opinions, but we must certainly listen and give them a chance.

The author has explored the pros and cons of facts v/s opinions by using food as an example...a nicely done little meal Miss Opinion cooks for Mr. Fact. It all works out quite well and the point is well driven home.

I love the simply verse the author uses to tell her tale; it is quite captivating. The illustrations are bright and very well done and go perfectly with the story. This is one of those books that can be used quite effectively on a one on one read, or better yet, a group read. There is plenty of room here to stimulate discussions with the wee ones you are reading it to or with. It does hold quite a number of good vocabulary words and uses them in a fashion that they are quite understandable even to the very young.

Melissa Polyakov, the author and Yana Gruntkovskayo, the illustrator, make a fine team and I am hoping we will see more of their work on down the line.

This book will be given to my daughter who teaches first grade (27 years now) to be used in her classroom.

Teachers, add this to your collection!

As children's literature is a wonderful way to engage students and create interest in abstract concepts, this children's book makes the perfect unit starter for teaching fact and opinion in elementary classrooms. The storyline is fresh and the illustrations are captivating. The characters are relatable and the story delightful. Children will see the value of expressing opinions as a way of adding color and interest to the world of facts. I hope to see more from this author and illustrator combination!

This is a fantastic children's book

This is a fantastic children's book! It's a charming story! Readers will better understand facts and opinions and be exposed to vocabulary words like objective and subjuctive. The story is first and foremost, so kids won't even realize how much they are learning! (It is written by a teacher.)

The illustrations are darling and lend themselves perfectly to the story.

The main objective of the Water Framework Directive in the European countries is to achieve a “good status” of all the water bodies, in the integrated management of river basins. In order to assess the impact of improvement measures, water quality models are necessary. During the previous decades the progress in computer technology and computational methods has supported the development of advanced mathematical models for pollutant transport in rivers and streams. This book is intended to provide the fundamental knowledge needed for a deeper understanding of these models and the development of new ones, which will fulfil future quality requirements in water resources management. This book focuses on the fundamentals of computational techniques required in water quality modelling.

About the Author
John C. Cavanaugh is President and CEO of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. Cavanaugh is a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the Association for Psychological Science, and the Gerontological Society of America, and has served as president of the Adult Development and Aging Division (Division 20) of the APA. Cavanaugh has also written (with the late Fredda Blanchard-Fields) ADULT DEVELOPMENT AND AGING. His research interests in gerontology concern family caregiving as well as the role of beliefs in older adults' cognitive performance.

Professor Whitbourne received her Ph. D. from Columbia University and has dual specializations in life-span developmental psychology and clinical psychology. She has taught at the State University of New York at Geneseo and the University of Rochester. At the University of Massachusetts, she received the University's Distinguished Teaching Award and the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teacher Award. In 2002, she received the Florence Denmark/Psi Chi National Faculty Advisor Award and in 2003, the APA Division 20 (Adult Development and Aging) Master Mentor Award . She is the Honors Coordinator in the Psychology Department and the Director of the Office of National Scholarship Advisement in the newly established Commonwealth Honors College. The author of fourteen books and over one hundred journal articles and book chapters, Professor Whitbourne is regarded as an expert in the field of personality development in adulthood and old age. She is currently the APA Council Representative of Division 20 of APA having also served as Division 20 President. Professor Whitbourne has developed nationally recognized approaches to technological innovations in teaching, and the web site she developed for her introductory psychology course was selected as a McGraw-Hill Web Cafe "Site of the Month."

Anatomy Phys. 2B Best Friend

What I found in my first semester of A&P for pre-med was that the best way to study this topic (once you have the basics of a chapter down) is to be quizzed. The more times a student can have their knowledge challenged verbally or written the better. There is a problem with certain topics where a student reaches a threshold of stress, knowledge, and repetition and they lose perspective on what they THINK they know, and what they ACTUALLY have in long term memory. I picked up this book tonight at Barnes and Noble, and one of the reasons I am writing this review is because I needed to find the Amazon link to give to my friends in class with me. Any student going over the systems, in particular, will probably end up doing better on their tests with this book. The book is a makeshift exam, with answers in the back. It has multiple choice, diagrams, crossword puzzles, fill in the blank, etc. It is from another publisher, but it follows my college text perfectly. *It will not teach you anything*. It will only reinforce it, which ends up being the hardest part of this subject. I think my Professor would do well to have a similar book for his class. Good luck!

Good book for nursing students

This book came packaged nicely and didn't have any ripped or bent pages, and also came early! I was very pleased and had no problems with ordering or shipping. As far as the book goes, I think this is a good study guide, but should be used with the textbook that goes along with it. I feel like some stuff was left out from the textbook that could be important which is why I gave it 4 stars. When I say stuff is left out, this is an example of what I mean: give three or four examples of systems in the human body. There are 11 systems and I would like to know all 11, not just three or four. If I wanted to rely on only this workbook to study from I would have to write in everything that is left out A lot of questions are like this. However, it asks the questions differently and makes you think, instead of simply defining things. I'm using this as a co-req for nursing and I like it. The answer's are in the back of the book in case you are unsure, and the website listed on the front cover is also very helpful, fun, and user friendly.

The workbook is very useful. it also help you to check your information and knowledge about the subject. I would say it is a must have!! It is very very helpful for exams.
