Brilliant play! Ridiculously hilarious

Brilliant play! Ridiculously hilarious. Lovely characters, well written and a fab author. The monologue 'I ate the divorce papers' is amazing, and can be used for auditions or school work. I used it for an exam piece and I never enjoyed embodying a character so much. It went down a treat with the audience, and I was successful with it. If using for school/college work, the play is perfect for you if your wanting to do comedy, and very versatile if wanting to put your own spin on it. If your considering to read this play just for a general read, then I recommend in doing so! It's an easy, light read with unexpected twists. Definitely a happy customer!

Good running theme regarding relationships. Use of many characters to tell one story keeps it light, funny, and fast. Only downside to that would be the lack of character depth as each character only has a short time to tell his/her story. Good piece to take funny short monologues from. Good starter piece for beginner actors.

So, what makes Deep Web so special>

Deep Web is your classic whodunit mystery, where a twin brother discovers his sister is murdered in a drive-by shooting. What I think makes this novel interesting is the premise. So it's Greg first discovering all of the scary things people can do online, and then by sheer luck discovers the site where they ordered the hit on her. He uses grit and determination to put all the puzzle pieces together to find out who did it. He then becomes his own private investigator while also becoming an Internet-savvy crime detective.

Where did the inspiration for the series come from?

I kept seeing in the news the story about the Silk Road owner getting arrested and the FBI seizing the website. It was then I learned about the deep web and how people were buying and selling drugs anonymously and having the post office ship it right to their door!

Now, I'm an internet-addict, so rarely does someone tell me about a site I haven't heard of before. But in this case, I'd never been on the deep web, and just found it captivating that there were all these sites where you can purchase things with Bitcoins, making it nearly impossible for people to track you. That's when I thought, "Wow, what if..." which is the classic question we writers often ask ourselves when coming up with story ideas.

What did you learn most about writing this book>

That it's a SCARY world out there! I downloaded Tor, the software used to get to the deep web. WOW, are there some terrifying websites out there! Seriously, you could run your own mafia and never leave the house!

Perhaps the craziest thing of all is it's so hard to detect your activities. Sure, the Silk Road guy was arrested, but it took the FBI a long time to find him. Lots of people out there are doing illegal crimes online and getting away with them because it's hard to hold up in court.

Deep Web provides a glimpse into that world and I hope everyone finds it as fascinating as I did!

"Deep Web" book is a riveting techno thriller!

This excellent book was a real page turner - I read it all in one evening in one sitting. It is a murder mystery where the main character, Greg, tries to track down his twin sister's killer. Greg's investigation proceeds through the world of the dark web or deep web, using the dark web browser known as Tor and by buying the cryptocurrency "bitcoin" to hire a hacker to aid in his search. There was enough detail about the technical aspects of the deep web to hold my interest without the novel becoming bogged down in computer jargon.

A very dark world exists within the internet.
Ryan Wiley’s Deep Web is a story about plumbing the dark side of the internet. A side few people venture into and even fewer use other than as a trip into the seamier of humanity. Whiney Greg Anderson loses his twin sister to an apparent random shooting—but is it random? Questioning why she was indiscriminately killed, he slowly discovers a darker side to his loving and wonderful sister’s reality. By chance surfing the Dark Web, he discovers she was actually assassinated by a for hire hitman. Enraged, the grousing Greg seeks vengeance.
The premise of Deep Web was terrific, sadly the execution was wanting. For example, the main protagonist was simply a wimp looking for a backbone. Fortunately he finds strength in a new girlfriend, Stacy, and a buffoonish coworker, Shane, to exact his revenge. I won’t give away anymore and spoil the story, but the real power house character in this interesting tale is girlfriend Stacy. The story had so much potential with the right casting of players, but was fumbled away thru egregious mischaracterization. Plus, I originally read this story to educate myself on just what the Dark Webb is. Sadly the book was too superficial on that point. Nevertheless, it was an interesting read if too superficial for my taste.
No gratuitous sex, language or violence. A quick read—I read it in one day—which denotes its shallowness.
Character development was shallow—a death knell to any story. Stacy was the only real character of consequence and carried this pedestrian novel.
Recommendation is mediocre at best. The book failed too many of my literary tests.

Couldn't stop reading it

I was just looking through some of the books I had on the Kindle app & seen that I had this one, but wasn't really ready to read it since I just started another book, but figured I would just read a chapter or 2 & by golly I couldn't stop reading it.
Really fast paced which really surprised me on ordered the kill.
Will be following this author to see what he comes up with next.

Absolutely superb - Five Stars!

Exceeds expectations exponentially. The author is brilliant, at least in her analysis of Cormac McCarthy. I've read a dozen books concerning Cormac McCarthy's writing, and I've read each of McCarthy's books, some of them twice. After reading Lydia R. Cooper I went back and reread some of McCarthy's books again. She has the best, most closely reasoned analysis of McCarthy's books I've ever read. I was often surprised in reading her and was obliged to reevaluate many aspects of McCarthy's work. She deserves five stars, and she deserves to be read by anyone who takes McCarthy seriously. I believe that he is one of the top writers in the world today, and Lydia R. Cooper is certainly his best critic.

Just like Babcia's Cooking: A Comprehensive Guide

This is the bible on good Polish home cooking.
You'll find at least one recipe for most dishes you can think of. They are clear, easy to follow, and the results taste just like my grandmother's cooking (she wonders how I do it without asking her for help).
There is an excellent section on ingredients and good directions for things like making your own bialy ser/twarog so that you can produce good Polish cooking regardless of how well or poorly stocked your local delicatessen is.
I occassionally feel that Pan Strybel is a little bossy, but the results justify it - my chicken soup has never been better.
Younger cooks may choose to ignore some of the garnishing suggestions as they are somewhat dated.
The index is really good, making it easy to find what you're looking for (in Polish or in English).
And when you're feeling a little tired and missing Poland, just curl up and read.

I love this cookbook, the recipes are excellent, and easy to follow. I've successfully prepared many dishes I'd never heard of before I married my husband who is Polish.

I'd reccommend this book to anyone who wants to prepare authentic polish recipes.

The Definitive Polish Cookbook for all occasions!!!

Having been raised a third-generation Polish-American in Western Massachusetts (where else!), I can honestly say that this book captures the divine essence of what great Polish cooking should be. Almost everyone has tasted, or at least has heard of kielbasa, that typical sausage flavored with a lot of garlic, golabki, or stuffed cabbage, and pierogi. It is custom for most of these dishes to be served with a hearty slice or two of rye or pumpernickel and boiled potatoes, as well as a shot of good vodka. These dishes are just a tiny fraction of what should be thought of as traditional Polish fare.

When I first came across this book years ago, I was so impressed to find such an extensive recipe collection printed in the English language. To this day, Polish cuisine is highly underrated to quite the extent that both fine French and Italian cuisine were at one point. It was once perceived, almost intentionally, that French and Italian chefs here in the States always cooked the same things both at home as well as in the restaurants. It is through these influences that we culminated so many of the classic dishes we all know and love today. Now there is a huge array of recipes and cookbooks out there for those who wish to explore the specific regions that make these dishes we all have come to relish. The same can be said about Polish cuisine, which is typically represented by the few dishes that has made it popular. Even today, few cookbooks talking about Polish food can be held in such high regard as this one. Those unaccustomed to this vast art form can find recipes ranging from the typical to the atypical. There are plenty of recipes for golabki, pierogi and paczki, those jam-filled doughnuts associated with Lent. Again, though, this makes up such a small amount of a cuisine that is sure to attract many devotees. There are chapters devoted to all sorts of hors d'oeuvres and soups, both hot and cold. Soup truly is the staff of life to any Pole. Cabbage, potato and mushroom lovers will rejoice at the numerous recipes (many with their own section) found all throughout this book, but it doesn't end there, my friends. The meat and game dishes are so delicious and varied, you'll wonder why you never sampled them before. Then come chapters devoted to pickling (true Polish style brine-pickled cucumbers, forget all those insipid store-bought varieties you're used to), homemade dairy products, cheese and sour cream, the essential Polish product along with twarog, or farmer's cheese. Learn how to make your own kielbasa in the chapter dealing with sausage-making, curing and smoking, endless breads and pastries, and finally a chapter devoted to the incomparable list of Polish beverages, ranging from the national favorite tea, which includes as many as eight or nine different brewing techniques. The same is included for true Polish coffee, and a long list of flavorings and liqueurs.

Founding father of economic conservatism, Smith nevertheless sympathized with the working class and scorned landlords and other capitalists whom he deemed incapable of heeding public regulations. Today his books are frequently quoted yet seldom read. To remedy this situation, Heilbroner (The Worldly Philosophers has done an admirable job of abridging The Wealth of Nations and Smith's other major writings. Current debate has centered on Smith's theory of the "Invisible Hand," the self-regulating mechanism of a free-market economy, which has proved increasingly irrelevant in the face of structural unemployment and large-scale industry. But Heilbroner points out that the Invisible Hand, far more than a ghostly economic planner, was meant to provide the underpinnings for a workable system of social and moral order. Heilbroner emphasizes that Smith was far less optimistic than many people assume; though he considered capitalism the basis for personal freedom, he expected that both the propertied class and the workers would push for their narrow self-interests. The skillfully edited selections cut through Smith's cant and rhetoric.

A Great Introduction to Adam Smith's Ideas

After reading Heilbroner's The Worldly Philosophers, I decided to read Smith's Wealth of Nations, but found myself daunted by the length and language of the book. Then I discovered Heilbroner's Essential Adam Smith and was hooked. The book offers the essential parts of Wealth of Nations, as well as a good sampling of some of his other works. As a result, I have not only read the entire Wealth several times, but have also read everything by and about Smith that I can find. Heilbroner's book is a good way to get to the heart of Smith's thinking, but, like me, you will probably find yourself wanting to learn more about the man, his ideas, and his life. Enjoy!

Condensed Capitalism

To understand capitalism, read the Wealth of Nations. But, to really understand it, as well as the other ideas of Adam Smith, read his essential works. This book allows the reader to fully grasp the concepts of capitalism and get a clear picture of how and why it works. Thankfully, Heilbronner did not dilute the works of Smith, he just condensed them for the modern day reader. With this book you can cut through the jargon and see the real points that Smith was trying to get across.

A good, concise summary of Smith

Content Summary: Adam Smith wrote two major works in his life - "The Theory of Moral Sentiments", which is lesser known, and his master work "The Wealth of Nations." Smith is remembered as one of the founding fathers of classical economic theory, known to us today as free market capitalism. In this concise summary, Heilbroner successfully gives us the essence of Smith's moral and economic theory Smith accomplished in both books.

Analytical Review: Heilbroner says that many people quote Adam Smith for their ideas, without actually having read Smith. This short work should help correct that, and I would recommend it (especially for the second half on The Wealth of Nations) as a concise introduction to Smith's thought. Both books would be over three times the length of this volume, so Heilbroner has slimmed the work down considerably, without sacrificing too much of its important meaning. Reading Smith, one is surprised how much his labor theory of value initially correspond to that of Marx, but Smith is much more comfortable with the use of money, and shifts away from the labor theory to market and exchange as the center of value. Like Marx's Capital, there may be parts to agree with, parts to dissent from here. Smith clearly would not give "carte blanche" to the capitalist, as many later thinkers would maintain. In fact Smith quite succinctly says that we should very skeptical of any legislation that is heavily sponsored by the commercial sector, as their interests are often contrary to the public interest. While Smith champions the free market, he has also some consideration for the poor. What he lacks, however, is the crystal clear solidarity with the working poor that is demonstrated in Marx's Capital. Smith's theory makes it seem as if capitalism results in a tide of wealth where all boats rise. This indeed may be true, but it also results in very gross and considerable inequalities. If people would read both works before they may hasty judgments about capitalism or socialism, it would certainly be beneficial.

Disappointment...It's actually a beginner's book and even for that it is not that useful

On page 12, "Assume you are purchasing a $1,200,000 property at 20 percent down ($40,000)..." Hhmm...this was suppose to be a $200,000 property--not a $1,200,000 property--otherwise the down payment won't be $40,000. Lots of other number related mistakes. The analysis of staging real estate as the greatest rate of return is consequently grossly flawed. The example assumed you can get $1000/month in rent--ok, that might be reasonable for $200,000 less some occupancy allowance since no property is likely to have 100% occupancy over 30 years--however, I don't see any allowance for things like maintenance, repair, tax, insurance, HOA, some of which also "appreciate" or inflate with the market. The example assumed 6%/year appreciation with 4%/year rental increases. 6% might be something that has occurred near some major cities but in more rural area's 4% might be common. Thus 5% might be more reasonable for typical suburban area that most people live around. Actually, moving forward, the rate might be much lower just based on projected lack of inflation. In any case, we all know about the big wreck in the real estate market that has happened but even before this, isolated regions have had their wrecks. 6% is way too optimistic considering that even in good markets as a whole, there are many that don't do nearly as well. If you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, the rate of appreciation will be below the mortgage rate thus the numbers will not work out at all. So author's claim in chapter one of turning $40,000 to $1,083,678 just is not likely to happen based on omission of maintenance and repair and property tax, assumption of appreciation, HOA, assumption of rental increase. Even if it were to happen, on an annualized basis, that return is 11.62%/year. Not exactly an impossible number to reach in smaller company index fund where you will still have a lot of diversification and nobody call you in the middle of the night. Speaking of which, for that number to work, you would have to be managing the property yourself since there's no allowance for maintenance and repair. I don't know too many $200,000 with a roof that will last 30 years even with regular maintenance so that must be put into the equation somewhere.

I the first page of chapter 2 is a chart comparing stock market return to REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) from 1975-2005. Conveniently omitting mid cap value index where REIT itself is part of which will make the comparison closer to fair and what you will find is that the mid-value index will outperform the REIT's with greater diversification. This also doesn't really prove real estate is better investment that the stocks anyway. Equity REIT's are not really Real Estate but entities which own and manage properties. The entities doesn't pay corporate tax but the individuals end up pay tax as s pass through. Therefore, equity REIT is nothing more than a corporation operating in a restricted type of business which in turn has is exempt from corporate income tax but passes through other tax to the shareholder. It still ends up paying property tax, maintenance, mortgage, insurance, repair, etc plus the management expense of the entity itself. It's a segment of the stock market. So cherry picking REIT segment out of the stock market and comparing it to the stock market as a whole is no more correct than cherry picking health care or financial stocks during specific periods of time it outperformed the market. Look at the price fluctuation of REIT segment and compare it against any diversified stock index and you'll see that REIT has much higher price fluctuation from the leverage that it has from the mortgage it contains. Speaking of which...author noted leverage as an advantage--it is only true if the assets obtained appreciates beyond the interest rate on the leverage--his example assumed 6% appreciation on 4% mortgage. 4% mortgage might be harder to get for rental property than owner occupied especially for a new landlord with no track record. I know the entire REIT market was in very bad shape in 2008--the leverage put a huge scare because just like many people who lost jobs and had a mortgage--many REIT were upside down and losing tenants left and right. Had this continued much longer, we would have seen a lot of REIT's gone bankrupt It's happened in the past so it certainly is a real risk into the future.

The book also noted multi-family residential as better performing than any other types of REIT's. Simply incorrect. Storage property REIT's have outperformed them all for the longest time. Depending on the period of time, commercial real estate market did better. But just because one did better than the other in the past doesn't really prove it will continue to do so in the future. Commercial real estate crashed years after residential real estate did for example. If you went with hind sight projected forward, you may have invested in commercial real estate just in time for the next crash.

LLC and insurance was noted as an advantage of real estate investment risk reduction over the stock market. Stock of individual companies are already protected from liability from passive investment thus there's really no advantage to real estate.

Once I fixed his example to what I thought were more reasonable real world numbers with real expenses, Real estate didn't seem to have particularly high return potential relative to the risk.

I'm completely disappointed with this book. Most of the rest are mere common sense things like not believing everything your real estate agent states thus verification is necessary. The book didn't go into details as to how to do that verification.

If you had read enough about theories and just want to get your hands on sound principles, this book may be for you. I was able to follow simple steps to create numbers based on data and removed the emotion of property to make a more successful purchases based on data, not emotions.

I do love this book

I really like this book. I recommend it to all my friends who are interested in real estate. To tell you the truth I buy this book as a gift and this is maybe my 5th copy.

While some of the info may be somewhat dated, the principles are still worth while if you follow the instructions on how to calculate profitability. You just have to put down a lot more (on houses) than used to be the case. I have followed the advice of this book and I have two rentals. I do make money on them. Just make sure to buy a nice structurally sound building in a nice area.
